Afghanistan: A Beautiful Place

Afghanistan – touch down in flight from Augustin Pictures on Vimeo.

Absolutely stunning film about life in Afghanistan. The cinematography is breathtaking. It's a shame that it's too dangerous to go there at the moment. I looked into it on LonelyPlanet.com's Thorn Tree Forum but it doesn't sound very inviting, with all of the kidnappings and bombings. I also don't think it would be easy getting a visa as a US citizen. Hopefully the situation calms down in the next decade or so. Can't wait to go there!

Clash of Civilizations: The Confusion of Being a Chinese Student in America

Really interesting article about what it is like to be college student from China going to school here in the US. It is a shame more students don't latch onto the idea of going against the grain and speaking your mind. Self-censorship to maintain the status quo in China is unsustainable, just like the country's insatiable appetite for coal. Have a read.

Welcome to Hong Kong

Impressive skyline of an equally impressive city. If you get a chance, go to Hong Kong. I like to describe it as a mix between China, San Francisco, and Honolulu, with a touch of chic architecture and British law.
